The Patriot Football Club (PFC) will spend money for football program activities, equipment, uniforms, workout gear, awards and coaches recognition. The Board of Directors will expend funds for items on the list as the Board and Head Coach sees fit, and as the available funds allow. The Club will try to fun 100% of the requests, however funding may be less than 100%, which will be dictated by funds currently available.
2008 Projects /Activities
Workout Gear – PFC believes it is important for each member of the Varsity and Junior Varsity team to have team oriented workout gear. As such, the PFC will purchase for the 2008 football team a pair of work out shorts and 2 workout shirts. This gear will be given to each player as a gift from the PFC.
Weight Room Improvement – PFC would like to substantially improve the weight room at First Colonial High School. PFC understands this weight room is presently being utilized by all students at First Colonial High School. An immediate improvement that we will seek from Principle Holt and Coach McTyre is to improve the logistics within this area. Immediate improvements could include painting the walls, perhaps personalizing each of the 4 walls by class (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior) to including names & weight lifting achievements. PFC believes the weight room and weight lifting program is vital to achieving success on the football field.
Locker Room Update – PFC believes the designated football locker room area needs improvement. PFC would like to undertake immediate tasks of improving cleanliness within this area, post names of players on each locker to make it more personable, paint & clean these areas thoroughly, and post information within this area to inspire our young men to achieve more.
Field Enhancements – PFC would like to enhance the football field for home games. Specifically, PFC is considering putting the Patriot Logo at midfield, and in the end zones.
Funding for Staff – PFC will review monetary considerations for the football staff, who are currently not being reimbursed for any type of expenses including, travel, direct out of pocket costs, and other expense borne by coaches without compensation.
Strength Coach Payments – PFC will consider making payments to a qualified person that will oversee a year round weight training program by First Colonial football players. This designated individual will be responsible for teaching players correct form lifting and monitor improvements on a player-by-player basis.
Team Dinners – From time to time, PFC is willing to fund football team dinners. During the last year, this has been provided by Kem Byrn. PFC would like to thank Kem for all of her activities. PFC is willing to assist with subsidies as required to help on football team dinners.
Grass Root Recruiting – PFC will endeavor to work with Coach McTyre to involve young football players with the First Colonial High School football program. As such, PFC will reach out to the Cooke, Great Neck and Kings Grant recreation tackle football leagues. PFC will work with Coach McTyre and the FC football players to determine involvement with these programs.
Help FC coaches in assisting First Colonial football players obtaining college scholarships through providing game film, letters of recognition or other actions within reason.
Long Term Projects / Activities
Weight Room – PFC believes the football team should have its own weight room for purposes of training the football players. The current weight room is substantially undersized and is shared with all FC athletics. FCHS has been extremely fortunate to receive some equipment from Inlet Fitness and former FC football players over the last few years. However the amount of equipment is currently not enough to simultaneously train multiple football players during the conditioning times currently allotted by the coaching staff. In addition to equipment shortages, the actual square footage within the current weight room is insufficient and is inaccessible to FC players.
In the future and as funds amass for PFC, we would like to consider a new and larger weight lifting facility. This facility would have to be coordinated with the city of Virginia Beach, Principle Holt and Coach McTyre.
Locker Room – PFC would like to significantly improve the locker room area for the football players. The current facilities are extremely small and will not allow the football team to gather during halftime. The football team currently gathers behind the equipment shed during halftime or in a classroom during inclement weather. PFC would like to consider either a new structure combined with a new weight room, or modify the existing facility by opening it up to allow better use of square footage within the building. The current locker room is divided up into many small rooms, none of which are truly operational as intended.
Coaches’ Area – The coaches’ area within the current locker room area is small, dirty and basically non-functional. It is not areas suitable for watching game film with the football players or analyzing and preparing game plans for the current opponent. PFC would like to change this but does not currently have enough input on corrective action.
Practice Field – The current practice field has drainage problem areas and is not marked off as a real football field, instilling the proper boundaries used on the field. PFC would like to set up including lining a practice field to be more functional.
Funding for Staff – PFC knows there are some coaches currently not being reimbursed for any of their actual expenses to train the FC football players. PFC would like to seek a long term arrangement to identify the number of coaches actually required to properly train a high school football team, and then assist with subsidies for coaches based upon merit over time.
Football Field Maintenance – The football field itself is a multi-sport utility field used by soccer teams, field hockey, football and other events. The field is currently not receiving enough maintenance throughout the year. PFC would like to improve this field maintenance to ensure it is properly maintained for football games.
Team Summer Football Camps – PFC would like to raise enough funds to enable the coaching staff to take the team to summer football camps. This will allow the coaches to work with the team in advance of the officially designated practice days and is permissible under current VHSL rules.
